ALBANY, Ga. — Georgia native and American Idol winner Phillip Phillips is doing his part to help the health care heroes battling the coronavirus.
Southwest Georgia, where Phillips is from, is the hardest-hit area of the state. Hundreds of people have died in the last couple months.

“My small town of Albany has been hit disproportionately hard by the coronavirus and I want to help. My roots run deep in Georgia, so it feels great to be able to support my community during this time,” Phillips wrote.

Phillips posted on Facebook that he will be performing a virtual show to help raise money for Phoebe Putney Healthcare System.
“We have a goal of $50,000 to raise for the Phoebe Foundation’s coronavirus relief fund, which is going to provide essential support to their employees and emergency response efforts to keep our community healthy and safe,” Phillips wrote.
Phillips’ performance will be May 7 at 6 p.m. on his Facebook page.
