ATLANTA — The Atlanta Hawks have hired Quin Snyder to be the franchise’s next head coach, NBA league sources told Channel 2 sports director Zach Klein.
According to Klein, the organization never interviewed anyone else for the role, with their eyes set on Snyder.
This move comes days after the Hawks announced that they fired head coach Nate McMillan after the team’s disappointing first half of the season.

After making a franchise-shifting move in acquiring former All-Star Dejounte Murray this past offseason, the Hawks have struggled to fit together and sit at just 31-30 on the season.
Snyder was the head coach of the Utah Jazz from 2014 to 2022 and compiled a 372-264 record, helping make the Jazz one of the better teams in the Western Conference towards the end of his tenure.
“I am thrilled to go back to Atlanta as the next head coach of the Hawks. Landry has a tremendous reputation as an incredibly bright, high character, high quality individual and it was quickly evident that we share a passion and commitment to building a winning team with a strong foundation and high standards,” Snyder said. “I am excited to collaborate with Landry to create a successful program that devoted Hawks fans are proud of and cheer for and am grateful to Tony, Jami and the Ressler family for this opportunity. My family and I are looking forward to immersing ourselves in the community and calling Atlanta home.”
Before he was hired in Utah, Snyder was an assistant coach with the Hawks in the 2013-2014 season under former head coach Mike Budenholzer.
A big part of the job for Snyder will be getting buy-in from star point guard Trae Young, who reportedly clashed with McMillan at times. Young is having a down year by his standards, and did not make the All-Star team, after making it as a starter in 2020 and 2022.
With only few weeks left in their season, the Hawks still have a chance to turn their season around with Snyder at the helm.
