ATLANTA — Several iconic Atlanta figures were vaccinated at Morehouse School of Medicine. They hope that others will follow in their footsteps.

Channel 2′s Kristen Holloway watched as Braves baseball legend Hank Aaron, former Atlanta mayor and ambassador Andrew Young and Dr. Louis Sullivan got the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

“I feel wonderful,” Aaron told Holloway. “It makes you feel like you are doing something not only to help yourself, but to help your community.”

The three iconic Atlanta figures, their spouses and other civil and human rights leaders over the age of 75 are part of the designated Class 1A on the vaccine priority list.

Dr. Sullivan, who is the founding dean of Morehouse School of Medicine, told Holloway he was excited to get the vaccine for many reasons.

“I’m a strong believer in science,” said Sullivan, who also served as HHS secretary under President George H.W. Bush.

“We now have the worst pandemic in history and the scientific developments make this possible. We have a very effective vaccine, a very safe vaccine and it’s a vaccine that will eliminate this virus in our community and improve the health of our citizens and I want to urge everyone to take it,” he said.
