Atlanta police officer arrested, charged with DUI

ATLANTA — An Atlanta police officer was arrested Saturday and charged with DUI. Authorities say this is the second time officer Adam Lee has been in trouble for alcohol.

"Officer Lee was already relieved of duty and on administrative assignment due to the first investigation. He will now remain so while the second investigation is underway," according to a statement from the Atlanta Police Department.

In September, Lee had allegedly showed up to the training academy gun range with the smell of alcohol on his breath.

Early Saturday morning, Georgia State Patrol Officer S. Tarpley wrote in his report, that he observed a silver Honda Accord traveling north on I-85 at 17th Street at a high rate of speed.

Tarpley wrote, the car was traveling at 101 mph. When Tarpley pulled the vehicle over, Lee was the driver.

The report says Lee blew a 0.186, over twice the legal limit, and that's when Lee addressed the GSP arresting officer.

Officer Lee, "requested that I turn my camera off and I advised him I could not do that," the report says. "He looked down towards a small card that was around his neck. I observed an Atlanta Police Department ID card."

Office Lee then, "advised he was currently on suspension for suspected drinking on the job."

He was arrested without incident.

According to APD, Lee will have an emergency hearing with Chief George Turner in the next three to five days to determine his employment status. He could remain on administrative duty, or be suspended without pay.

The investigation into the incident from September is ongoing and APD said they weren't able to disclose any more details until the case is closed.
