Police say the incident happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday near shopping center on the 800 block of Glenwood Avenue. The shopping area includes a Great Clips, a Waffle House, a Kroger and several other retailers just blocks from Grant Park. It’s also in an area with several apartment buildings and restaurants.

Directly across the street from where the shooting happened is Maynard Jackson High School.

Police said the 15-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified her as Diamond Johnson.

Two other teenagers were taken to the hospital and are stable.

The investigation found that two groups of teenagers were fighting nearby. After the fight, other people, including adults, came to the location and the fight continued, eventually leading to gunfire.

Police have not released any information about possible suspects.

It’s unclear if the shooting is related to several fights that broke out between groups of teenagers in Grant Park earlier in the evening.

Police are combing through surveillance video to try to help them determine who fired the shots.

On Saturday morning, one window of the Waffle House was boarded up where a bullet pierced the window.

Channel 2′s Christian Jennings spoke to a neighbor who heard dozens of gunshots from her home.

“A minute, even still, of continuous gunshots is a long time. I mean, it was pronounced,” Khrys Kelly said. “We could have been walking by. You just don’t know. I walk all the time in this area.”

Kelly’s friend, Jamil Terrell, said violence among teens in Atlanta needs to be addressed.

“We need to find some solutions for the young kids so they can have some spaces to exude that energy,” Terrell said.
