ATLANTA — We have a better idea of when some Atlanta Public School students could start going back into classrooms.
In a Facebook Live town hall meeting Thursday night, Superintendent Dr. Lisa Herring outlined the process of having students return to the classroom.
Herring said face-to-face learning will start with the younger students in January.
“It is our intent to look at January 25th to start bringing in and phasing our pre-k and special education students,” Herring said in the town hall.

A week later the superintendent will add more grade levels.
“If you’re in grades 3, 4 and 5, your in person options begins on February 1st,” Herring said.
The plan is subject to change depending on the community spread of COVID-19. If there’s an uptick of the virus, Herring will stick with online learning.
Atlanta students have been learning online since mid-March, when the district first closed school buildings.
Last month, APS announced that Herring tested positive for COVID-19.
