ATLANTA — New video shows a large crowd block a busy intersection in northeast Atlanta to perform street racing stunts.
A Channel 2 Action News viewer sent a video of the cars blocking North Avenue at Glen Iris Drive near Ponce City Market around 12:55 a.m. Monday.

In the video, you can see drivers doing donuts and other stunts while firing off flares. The stunts go on for several minutes before police arrived around 1:10 a.m. and cleared the scene.
Channel 2 Action News reached out to Atlanta police for more information about the response.
Police confirmed that they detained one person and charged them with “non-driver participation in street racing” and reckless driving. The person, who has not been identified, was then released.

Police across metro Atlanta and north Georgia have sent warnings about the dangers of street racing events.
In March, a street race turned deadly in Troup County.
The driver of a car and a spectator died when that car crashed during a street race.
Police arrested the other driver in that race.
