ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has learned a deadly shooting outside a busy gas station started as an attempted robbery.
The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday at the Chevron station on Spring Street and 10th Street in Midtown.
Channel 2's Lauren Pozen has been at the scene all morning. Police tell Pozen three people were inside a black Mercedes when a man tried to rob them.
One of the victims shot at the robber, who later died from his injuries.
Police believe the 21-year-old wasn't alone and they are now looking for a black SUV that left the scene.
"We don’t know the tag number at this point. We don’t know how many occupants were in that vehicle," Lt. Andrea Webster told Pozen.

A Channel 2 photographer arrived at the station shortly after investigators did. We found cash scattered on the pavement near the Mercedes and one of the gas pumps.
"We believe that was part of the attepted robbery that the suspects were trying to get that money that was on the ground," Webster said.
Pozen asked police if the victims and the suspect knew each other, but they are unsure at this time. Police said there is surveillance video of the shooting, but it has not been released.
All three of the attempted robbery victims are being interviewed at police headquarters.
