17-year-old killed after exchange of gunfire with another teen, Atlanta police say

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating a shooting that left one teen dead and another injured on Wednesday night in a northwest Atlanta neighborhood.

A Channel 2 Action News photographer showed the live scene on WSB Tonight at 11 p.m.

Authorities said officers responded to a report of two people who had been shot on Sunset Ave. NW, a residential area off of Joseph E. Boone Blvd.

When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old who were shot.

Police said both victims were taken to the hospital; however, the 17-year-old died due to his injury, and the 19-year-old was alert, conscious and breathing.

Police have not identified either victim. Investigators believe the two teens shot at each other following an argument.

Homicide Unit detectives continue to work to determine the motive surrounding the incident.

It is unclear if anyone has been taken into custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
