18-year-old shot and killed off busy Midtown street after selling water, police say

ATLANTA — An 18-year-old was shot multiple times and killed in Midtown Saturday afternoon.

The shooting happened at 95 8th Street around 2:30 p.m., Atlanta police said. The busy area off Peachtree Street is home to several restaurants and bars.

Atlanta Police Captain D’Andrea Price said that a group of young men were walking up the street and the shooter approached them. Price said they have been able to piece together some of what happened from video surveillance footage.

“Some type of altercation occurred. They scattered. They ran,” Price said. “The shooter entered a garage where the deceased was located.”

Witnesses said they saw the group walking up the street near Spring St. and Peachtree Place before the gunfire broke out. The victim ran to a nearby garage.

Police said the victim was shot multiple times in the chest and died at the scene. Price said she believed the victim was with a group of teens selling water.

The victim was identified Sunday as 18-year-old Jalanni Pless of Atlanta. Two people were detained and later released after questioning. There is no suspect information to release at this time.
