17-year-old girl killed, 5 injured after car speeding from troopers crashes in downtown Atlanta

ATLANTA — A 17-year-old girl was killed after multiple people were injured after a high-speed chase with Georgia State Patrol led to a crash on Saturday night in downtown Atlanta.

According to GSP, troopers tried to stop a black Toyota Camry going 99 mph in a 55 mph zone on I-75 around 9 p.m. The driver didn’t stop and initiated a chase.

The Camry exited onto Omron Street and was still speeding when the driver ran the red light on Hank Aaron Drive. The car went airborne and flipped over, causing a multi-vehicle accident.

The impact ripped the car’s roof off and threw four of the six people in the Camry from the car. According to GSP, none of whom were wearing seatbelts.

The driver then ran from troopers. All six people in the car were taken to the hospital.

D’yonni Davis, 17, died from her injuries, according to a GoFundMe set up by her family.

The conditions of the other people who were in the Camry have not been released.

It’s unclear if the driver, 27-year-old Ronald Antwon Battle, has been arrested.

Davis’ father, Darrion Lucius, said in the GoFundMe that Davis was the oldest sibling of seven. The family is currently raising money to ship her body back to St. Louis, where she is from, for a proper burial.
