Brother and sister shot dead in southwest Atlanta, acquaintance in custody

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are currently investigating a double shooting in southwest Atlanta that left two people dead.

Officers were called to 1185 Sells Avenue around 9 p.m.

Police spokespeople say that a brother and sister in their late 20s and late 30s were shot and killed Friday night.

Investigators say they have an acquaintance of the siblings detained, but he has not been charged. Police say that after the shooting the acquaintance ran towards a fire truck.

Lamorris Godfrey, 35, has been arrested. He’s been charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The relationship between Godfrey and the victims is still being investigated.

Channel 2 Action News crews on the scene say there is a large amount of the victims’ family surrounding the scene of the shooting who appear to also live in the area.
