ATLANTA — Atlanta police confirmed it’s investigating an accidental shooting involving a child in southwest Atlanta.
Officers responded to Cushman Circle around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police originally said they found a 3-year-old girl with a gunshot to her stomach.
However, investigators later found the child was not hit by a gunshot. Instead, she was hit by glass debris as a result of the gunshot.
Police tell Channel 2 Action News the girl is alert and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Officers remain at the scene and are speaking with the girl’s guardians.

This is the third accidental shooting involving a child in the past month in Atlanta.
On July 28, a 3-year-old boy died after he accidentally shot himself in the head off Manor Lane.
A 2-year-old boy shot himself in the head in a home off Delray Street on Aug. 8. Dontavious Wells was charged with reckless conduct, theft by receiving a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and cruelty to children in the 2nd degree.
