According to officials, part of the counterbalance of the crane fell off and badly damaged two floors of the building below. Debris also damaged a car.

The four people who were injured were initially taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries but were then taken by ambulance to Northside Hospital.

W. Peachtree Street has been closed to traffic; as well as Spring Street NW between 12th Street and 10th Street; and 10th Street NW from Spring Street NW to W. Peachtree Street NW.

“They’re not stable. The engineers have advised that everyone evacuate the building. They are in fear of the two floors further collapsing,” Michael Roman with Atlanta Fire Rescue Department said. “We closed all streets to traffic and we evacuated three buildings where people reside because they are in the danger zone.”
