ATLANTA — The Atlanta Public Schools superintendent has tested positive for COVID-19.
The school district confirmed to Channel 2 Action News on Friday that Lisa Herring tested positive for the virus.
In a statement, Herring said being diagnosed reminded her we all have to stay diligent, to protect ourselves and others.

Experts say they’re concerned about rising COVID-19 cases across Georgia.
On Friday, the Georgia Department of Health reported the state’s total case count at 370,106, a nearly 1,800 case increase over Thursday.

“Our case rate is climbing across all different county types,” said Dr. Amber Schmidtke, a microbiologist who keeps close tabs on Georgia’s pandemic. “It’s not just pockets of rural Georgia or pockets of metro Atlanta. It’s across the state.”
Just last month, APS announced it would not return to face-to-face learning until at least January 2021 because of the COVID pandemic.
