ATLANTA — A frightening encounter for a man and his fianceé after thieves robbed them in their own apartment home in southwest Atlanta.

They say the men forced them on the ground and stole over thousands of dollars they were saving to better their lives.

"They just burst right in," Shardarius Williams told Channel 2's Lauren Pozen.

The encounter early Wednesday morning was so terrifying, Williams didn't want his face shown when we spoke with him.

"Some guys entered the home with AK's and I don’t know what the other gun was, it was quite big too," he says.

Williams says the men had masks on and yelled at him to get on the ground.

In the next room was his fianceé. He says the men dragged her out of bed and forced her on the ground too.

"You got people that have never seen her like that, naked, you got a gun pointed to her head and stuff like that demanding stuff that she did not have," he says.

Williams says the men demanded the keys to his SUV, jewelry and over $4,000 in cash stashed in a dresser drawer.

That money Williams says  he and his fianceé were saving to better their situation.

"We've been saving up trying to move out of this area you know where stuff like this really don’t happen," he says.

Williams says he and his fianecé work hard honest jobs

"She teaches, I do hard labor, cut grass anything I can to make some money.”

They don’t understand why someone would want to take from them.

"If you was out robbing and doing something negative, then the karma, thing kicks in. But, doing positive, you don’t expect nothing to happen like that especially something like this," he says.

Despite the tense encounter, no one was hurt.

Atlanta police found his stolen SUV abandoned about a mile away from his southwest Atlanta apartment.
