ATLANTA ACTIVE SHOOTER: Leaders respond to deadly active shooting in midtown Atlanta

ATLANTA — An active shooter situation in midtown Atlanta has left at least one person dead and four others injured.

Police have identified the suspect as Deion Patterson, 24. He was taken into custody at a Cobb County apartment complex on Wednesday evening.

Governor Brian Kemp released a statement on Wednesday night saying he was heartbroken for the families affected by the shooting.

“We’re also thanking God for the brave local and state law enforcement who responded forcefully and without hesitation. Thanks to their efforts, the shooter is now in custody and will face justice,” he wrote.

Senator Raphael Warnock addressed the shooting from the floor of the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C.

“Tragically, we act as if this is routine,” Warnock said. “None of us is safe, no matter where we are.”

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been briefed on the midtown Atlanta shooting.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens joined Atlanta police in asking everyone to stay alert and contact 911 if you see anything.
