Atlanta firefighter hospitalized after battling house fire, officials say

ATLANTA — An Atlanta firefighter was injured responding to a fire call early Thursday, according to fire officials.

Officials arrived at a home on Burbank Drive in northwest Atlanta and found a home in flames.

Fire officials told Channel 2′s Darryn Moore that three people were inside the home at the time of the fire, and all were able to escape without any injuries.

One of those living in the house, Cecil Garrett, who was on the first floor, was able to safely escape, he told Channel 2.

“When I woke up my room was already full of smoke. I opened the door, tried to turn on the light but I couldn’t see anything because there was so much smoke,” Garrett said.

The firefighter was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Officials remain on the scene investigating the incident.
