An Atlanta Fire Rescue Department spokesperson said crews arrived on the scene to find the building fully engulfed.

“It was so bad that we really had to take a defensive posture on the building and attack it from the outside,” Anare Holmes with Atlanta Fire and Rescue said.

Firefighters weren’t able to do a search until the fire was under control. They later found the two people dead inside. Their names have not been released.

Holmes said one of the victims is a man, but the other hasn’t been identified. Both were homeless and using the building for shelter.
