Atlanta nonprofit names, provides scholarship to honor life and legacy of WSB-TV’s Jovita Moore

ATLANTA — There’s a new scholarship to honor the life and legacy of Jovita Moore.

It is called the ‘Jovita Moore HBCU Undergraduate Scholarship’.

The Jaguar Foundation of Atlanta gave the first one out during their 14th annual Atlanta Achievement Awards in downtown Atlanta Sunday night.

Channel 2′s Jovita Moore emceed this program from 2010 until her passing in October 2021.

On Sunday night her family presented the scholarship to the first recipient, Aliyah Beal.

“I’m just really honored to be the first recipient of this scholarship, just seeing her involvement in metro right there it really just impacted me,” Beal said.

The Jaguar Foundation of Atlanta, Inc.’s mission is to mentor, inspire and financially support Atlanta area students through scholarships to attend Southern University A&M College, and other selected accredited HBCU institutions (Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse and Spelman Colleges).

Beal is planning to attend Southern University where she will study Business Economics.

Channel 2′s Jovita Moore died in Oct. 2021 after a battle with glioblastoma, the most common type of brain cancer. At this time, there is no cure for glioblastoma, only treatments to slow it down.
