Atlanta park gets an upgrade thanks to tennis star Coco Gauff, actress Storm Reid

ATLANTA — Native Atlantans who made it big are giving back to their community and making sure kids have a safe place to play.

Southeast Atlanta’s Brownwood Park is getting new equipment, and specially painted tennis courts thanks to a donation by two celebrity philanthropists.

The East Atlanta Kids Club helped turn the event, and the day, into a celebration.

“It’s really the culmination of a longer effort, to activate this space for everyone,” Ryan Downey, Executive Director of EAKC, told Channel 2 Action News.

The EAKC has been helping kids learn and stay active for more than 20 years.

According to information from the City of Atlanta, Reid selected Brownwood Park as a spot for all-new playground amenities after touring multiple communities across the city.

Reid said she wants to restore parks in underprivileged neighborhoods across the Untied States through her initiative ArashiBlu 1720 One Park at a Time.

New Balance and EAKC are supporting her vision, according to a statement.

Additionally, Gauff is working with Art in the Paint to make a signature design for the park’s tennis courts. Art in the Paint is a nonprofit that specializes in renovating public outdoor courts, according to city officials, and makes “large-scale works that inspire creativity and promote community engagement.”
