ATLANTA — The long-anticipated return of the New Year’s Eve Peach Drop will have to wait another year.

Sources tell Channel 2 Action News that the Peach Drop will be canceled this year. An official announcement is expected some time Tuesday, sources say.

This marks the third year in a row that the Peach Drop has been canceled after it was not held in 2019 and 2020.

The Peach Drop was set to return on December 31 to help ring in 2022 at Underground Atlanta. Performances were scheduled by Atlanta hip-hop group Goodie Mob and Grammy Award winner Ashanti.

For decades, thousands have gathered at Underground Atlanta to watch the Peach Drop. The event was moved for 2017 to Woodruff Park but returned to Underground Atlanta in 2018.

The 2019 cancellation was the first time the Peach Drop was not held in 30 years.
