Police canvass Piedmont Park as search continues for woman’s killer

ATLANTA — It’s a murder-mystery Atlanta Police and visitors to Piedmont park are ready to have resolved. The homicide of Katherine “Katie” Janness has generated concern among many about safety in Piedmont Park and the area surrounding it.

Janness and her dog, Bowie, were found with multiple stab wounds at the entrance to the park on 10th street early Wednesday morning.

APD began a tactical neighborhood canvass Saturday afternoon in and around the park with the hope of finding anyone who may have information to help in the investigation. Officers are fanned out across the park looking for evidence connected to the crime.

Police say they are still trying to formulate leads and information that will lead them to an arrest

Friday, the FBI confirmed to Channel 2 Action News they will join Atlanta Police and assist in their investigation.

Police say Janness went for a walk with her dog after visiting her wife, Emma Clark, at work. When she did not return home later that night, Clark got worried pinged her phone. Clark found Janness and her dog Bowie dead inside the park.

Investigators are actively working to identify anyone involved in this crime and are asking anyone with information to please contact the Atlanta Police Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. Callers can remain completely anonymous. The reward is up to $10,000.
