ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has learned that Atlanta Police Chief George Turner is set to retire near the end of the year.
Channel 2's Mark Winne was first to report the news on Wednesday morning. The mayor is expected to hold a news conference with Turner Thursday.

Turner, a 35-year veteran of the police force, was appointed as chief of police in 2010 by Mayor Kasim Reed.
Turner was born and raised in Atlanta. He is married to Cathy Turner for more than 30 years and they are the parents of four adult children and 7 grandchildren.
