ATLANTA — An Atlanta Police Department commander was charged after Transportation Security Administration officers found a loaded gun in his luggage.
According to the incident report obtained by Channel 2 Action News, on Monday, officers received reports of a loaded weapon at the Hartfield-Jackson International Airport.

When officers arrived, they were informed by TSA officers that the gun was found after a man placed his book bag on the conveyor belt. The gun was later located when the bag was scanned.
The report said the gun belonged to Atlanta Police Department Major Michael O’Conner, a Technology and Information Services department commander of APD.

According to the report, the officer found that the gun was loaded with one magazine with 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
O’Connor was charged with weapon violations.

Ultimately, officers did not deem O’Connor a threat and allowed him to continue his travels.
O’Connor has been a part of the APD for over 24 years.
