Man shot, killed after trying to stop car thieves at gas station, APD says

ATLANTA — Police are investigating a deadly shooting outside a BP gas station in northwest Atlanta.

Police responded to 329 14th Street to a person shot call. When they arrived, they found a man between 30 and 40 years old with a gunshot wound.

Lt. Germain Dearlove of the homicide unit for the Atlanta Police Department told Channel 2 that police believe the victim witnessed men trying to take a Mercedes-Benz in the parking lot.

It is unknown if the car belonged to the victim or someone else. The victim was shot and died at the hospital, officials say.

Police believe they are looking for two or three suspects, but did not have a full description.

Dearlove said the suspects’ vehicle is a silver sedan, which was last seen traveling westbound on 14th Street. The investigation is ongoing.
