ATLANTA — The Atlanta police department wants to get guns off the street so they are having a gun buyback this Saturday.
It’s part of mayor Andre Dickens’ One Safe City program.

Atlanta’s interim police chief Darin Schierbaum spoke about the effort on Thursday.
“This is certainly with children present we’ve had approximately 26 occurrences of people being injured from discharge of a weapon they’ve been handling and five of those are children.”

The gun buyback will be at the Atlanta Civic Center parking lot on Piedmont Avenue on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The city will pay $50 for handguns and $100 for long guns.
