ATLANTA — There is new information about a plan to get students back classrooms in one of metro area’s biggest school districts.
Parents in the Atlanta Public Schools systems have until Monday to notify the district if their students will return to face-to-face learning or stick with virtual learning.
Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Lisa Herring held a town hall Thursday night to update parents. It is the first of three virtual town halls the superintendent has planned.

Right now, the school district is still targeting Oct. 26 as the date to start bringing children back to class. But Herring said allowing students back in the classroom won’t happen if there’s a rise in the number of coronavirus cases.
Herring said she will track the COVID-19 trend on Oct. 16 and if the numbers are up, the district will stay virtual.

The district is sticking with three important options.
Option 1: Virtual learning.
Option 2: Face-to-face learning - in class, with social distancing and safety measures.
Option 3: Atlanta Virtual Academy, which would have kids learning online for the rest of the year.
