LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Atlanta rapper Quavo led a moving tribute to his nephew and fellow Migos member Takeoff during Sunday night’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
The rapper performed his song “Without You,” which he wrote in memory of Takeoff, during the In Memoriam segment honoring those who died in the last year.

Quavo performed from a stool with a single spotlight shining on him. One of Takeoff’s chains hung from a microphone stand feet away from where Quavo sat.
Atlanta-based worship group Maverick City Music joined Quavo during the performance as he took the chain off of the microphone stand and held it up as they continued performing.

Takeoff, whose real name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, died in November after being shot outside of a Houston, Texas bowling alley.
Migos rappers Takeoff, Offset and Quavo all grew up in the same household in Lawrenceville, Georgia and went on to become rap superstars who were nominated for two Grammy awards.
At 28 years old, Takeoff was the youngest member of the group.
Quavo was with Takeoff at the time of the shooting. Pictures show him kneeling over his nephew after he was shot during what police said was a fight that broke out after a private party.
Police said they don’t believe Takeoff was directly involved in the fight.

Loretta Lynn and Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie were also honored during the In Memoriam segment with special performances by Kacey Musgraves and Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt and Mick Fleetwood, respectively.
