The stadium’s field was already named in honor of Henderson, who was a former principal, coach and athletic director at the school.
Henderson was the first African American in Georgia to complete the requirements of a certified athletic director, according to a 2011 resolution when the field was renamed. The district said Henderson dedicated three decades of public service and education.

The board previously voted in December to change the name of the school from Grady High School to Midtown High School.
Both the school and stadium were named for Henry Grady, a journalist many consider a racist and white supremacist. Many people argued he shouldn’t be celebrated by having a school named after him.
