Good Samaritans shot trying to stop attempted carjacking on Peachtree Road in Buckhead

ATLANTA — Two people were shot Tuesday afternoon while trying to stop suspects from stealing a car.

It happened along Peachtree Road near where it intersects Collier Road during the lunch hour in a very busy part of Buckhead.

The shooters got away.

A pharmacist at the Shepherd Center told Channel 2′s Tom Jones that he decided to drop off his dry cleaning when car thieves shot at him and hit two people who tried to do a good deed.

“Once gunshots ringing out and people started running, it got scary pretty quick,” the carjacking victim said, asking not to be identified.

The two good Samaritans who tried to help him were hit by gunfire.

“Thankfully I’m OK and again the two gentleman who stopped to help are both stable,” the victim said.

He told Jones that he made the mistake of leaving his black Volvo running while he ran inside the Peachtree Cleaners around noon.

That’s when a car thief jumped in and tried to take off.

“I had him in a headlock and when he got loose and got back into the vehicle, they kept shooting towards me. And that’s when they shot my vehicle,” the victim said.

That’s when he said the carjacker shot the two good Samaritans who blocked the car thief from leaving. The shooters got away.

This has taught the pharmacist a valuable lesson.

“The whole experience taught me it’s easier sometimes to let things go, let them take the car, it can be replaced, don’t leave your keys in the car,” the victim said.

Police recovered the stolen car the suspects were in not far from the cleaners.

There are plenty of surveillance cameras in the area and police are going through those. They told Jones they really want to get these dangerous criminals off the streets.
