Baby delivered early after pregnant woman shot 3 times by Uber driver in College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Family members said doctors were forced to deliver a woman’s baby early after she was shot multiple times by a rideshare driver while she was 7 months pregnant.

Kenneth Anderson said his daughter was shot three times Saturday night in College Park and is currently in the intensive care unit. The family does not want to release the mother’s name. Anderson said his daughter was shot directly in the stomach and two times in the upper thigh.

Police told Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes that their investigation has led them to believe the shooter was an Uber driver. We’ve reached out to Uber for more information and they are working to determine if the shooter was one of their drivers.

Doctors delivered her baby prematurely and the baby is also now fighting to survive.

Anderson said his daughter told him that the Uber driver picked her up in a different car than what was indicated in the app and they got in an argument outside of her apartment.

Fernandes spoke to sources with the College Park Police Department, who said they know the suspect’s identity and are working to get him into custody.

Uber released a statement Monday night.

“The details surrounding the horrific act of violence towards the rider and her newborn are nauseating and our thoughts are with them as they recover. We stand ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation.”

Representatives with Uber add that as soon as they became aware of the incident, the driver was deactivated and reached out to the rider to offer their support.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for medical expenses.
