Beloved McDonald’s manager shot by employee outside busy restaurant, police say

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating a shooting in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant.

Atlanta police say that the employee shot his manager during an argument around 4 p.m. on Friday.

Police say the manager was taken to the hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators said the manager was involved in a dispute an employee at the location. The employee was asked to leave. Then he returned and confronted the manager outside the restaurant where he shot her.

The employee fled after shooting the manager.

Chief People Officer for Sunshine and Sunrise McDonald’s Colnith Brown identified the manager as Elizabeth Williams. He says she is currently at Grady Memorial Hospital and was “doing ok, the last I heard.”

Brown described Williams, who had been with the restaurant for three years, as an “amazing leader” and “very loved by her team and the community.”

He says Williams and the employee who shot her, who has not been identified, had a good relationship with one another. Brown said that day Williams had returned a load of laundry she had washed for the employee to him.

“You don’t imagine coming to work and having something like this happen,” Brown told Channel 2′s Justin Carter.

The McDonald’s location is staying closed for the time being. There is no word on when they will reopen.
