ATLANTA — Six months after a woman was stabbed, cameras are now fully functional in Piedmont Park, according to the City of Atlanta.
Katie Janness and her dog were stabbed more than 50 times last year. Her killer still has not been arrested.
Channel 2′s Dave Huddleston visited the park after learning the cameras have been fixed and are now working.
“I know that when I walk through the park the thought of the murder always comes into my head,” park visitor Devonte Anderson said.

According to the medical examiner’s office, Janness and her dog were stabbed more than 50 times.
Neighbors visiting the park are wondering what is being done to find the killer. Former Atlanta Police Department Chief Rodney Bryant said clues and details are still coming in.
“It still is as open as it was, we are still getting information and still going through a lot of evidence,” he said.

While cameras have been fixed, some visitors are still worried.
“As a woman, I am always on alert, to make sure I am watching my back and that I am in a safe environment,” park visitor Imami Straker told us.
As the search for her killer continues, friends, family and the Piedmont Park Conservancy revealed a bench at the park in Janness’s honor.
The plaque describes Janness as a “student of life” and her dog, “a loyal companion.”
“If we had cameras, I think we we would be able to find who did that horrible crime,” Anderson said.

The Atlanta City Council voted to install new cameras at the park in August, however, it is unclear if these cameras are part of a new system or if they are older cameras that were fixed.
In the meantime, APD is asking anyone who may have information or saw something the night of Janness’s death to contact them.
