Child survives being hit by train, Atlanta police say

ATLANTA — A child is expected to survive after being hit by a train on Thursday night, Atlanta police say.

The incident around 9 p.m. near Melvin Dr. and Kimberly Rd. in southwest Atlanta.

Police say the child was taken to the hospital, but suffered non-life threatening injuries. They say the child suffered some cuts to the arm and the back of the head. The child’s current condition is not known.

Investigators have not released any details on how the child was struck by the train or what the child was doing in the area.

CSX, which operates the train involved in the incident, released a statement on Thursday night saying that they appreciate the “swift response” of Atlanta police and will be fully cooperating with them as they investigate the crash.
