Clark Atlanta University fires football coach after 2 - 8 season

ATLANTA — Clark Atlanta University has terminated its football coach, effectively immediately, the university said Thursday.

Tim Bowens has coached the Panther football program for the last three years.

Bowens compiled a 2-18 record over the past three years, including a 2-8 record this past season.

“I appreciate the hard work that Tim Bowens has put in the past three years,” said J Lin Dawson, the director of athletics. “As head of this Department, I pledged to make sure that we meet and exceed high expectations on the field and off, and sometimes that requires some hard decisions.  Bowens is a very high-character leader and I appreciate his service and commitment to Clark Atlanta University athletics. I wish the best for Tim and his family in the future.”

The university will begin a national search to identify the next coach immediately.
