Clayton County family wants answers after man killed defending his sister

ATLANTA — A Clayton County family says they feel like Atlanta police are leaving them in the dark in the homicide case of their loved one.

Damien Hann’s family says he was killed back in July while trying to break up a fight between his sister and her girlfriend.

“It’s tragic, it’s tragic,” Hann’s father Arron Harris told Channel 2 investigative reporter Ashli Lincoln.

“It’s been hard,” Hann’s stepmother Reshanda Harris said.

Arron and Reshanda Harris say agonizing over their son’s murder isn’t how they expected to spend Thanksgiving.

“It’s a hurtful thing because my son never hurt no one, my son was a good boy, he was a good boy,” Arron Harris said.

They say Hann, 28, was called over to an apartment on Boulevard in midtown Atlanta after learning his sister was involved in a domestic dispute with her girlfriend. The family says that at some point, his sister’s girlfriend fired a gun at Hann and killed him.

“It makes us feel some kind of way. I just don’t want his death to be in vain,” said Reshanda Harris.

They say several witnesses on the scene told police who fired the fatal shot, but no arrests have been made.

“It just don’t feel like we’re getting justice,” Arron Harris told Lincoln.

Atlanta police told Channel 2 Action News that they investigated the case and ruled Hann’s death a justifiable homicide and the case is closed.

Arron and Reshanda Harris say police never shared those details with them.

Police say the family will now need to follow up with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.

Lincoln reached out to their office, but has not heard back because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
