ATLANTA — An attorney for five young women claims they were attacked and robbed at gunpoint by comedian Katt Williams and members of his security team.
Lawyer Loletha Hale said the women, who were visiting from out of town, encountered the comedian while walking to a midtown nightclub early Sunday. She said a picture taking encounter suddenly turned violent.
"Katt Williams and members of his entourage pointed a gun, physically attacked, illegally detained and stole personal items from five young ladies,” said Hale.
Hale said members of Williams’ security entourage stole three of the women's cellphones and terrorized them when they tried to leave.
"Mr. Williams pointed a gun at all of them while they were seated in their car with their doors locked and (they were) horrified," Hale said.
Police handcuffed Williams but released him stating in a report that there were no independent witnesses to the incident, and no injuries reported. A police spokesperson told Channel 2's Tom Regan the case remains open.
A lawyer for the comedian told Channel 2 Action News the fact that police didn't bring charges shows a glaring lack of evidence.
"This is a money grab. It's an attempt to file a lawsuit. This is what happens when you have a celebrity. It wouldn't happen if this was an average person," said attorney Drew Findling.
The alleged assault happened the day before Williams allegedly walked into a pool supply store in Gainesville, Georgia and punched a sales clerk in the face.
Police arrested Williams Monday on a misdemeanor battery charge. He was released on $5,000 bail.
The comedian claimed in an online interview that the clerk pocketed $1,500 cash that he had placed on the counter, and used a racial slur.
Police say that Williams made no such claim at the time of his arrest.
