NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Good news drivers: The massive interstate project at Georgia 400 and Interstate 285 is on track to be completed by the end of this year.
The interchange connects Ga. 400 and I-285 and was originally built to handle about 100,00 vehicles a day but now handles 420,000 vehicles a day.
The project also includes a diverging diamond interchange at Ga. 400 and Abernathy Road plus a new bridge at Mount Vernon Highway.
“It really serves as the access for two of the biggest major highways in the metro Atlanta region,” said Scott Higley with Georgia Department of Transportation.
A new flyover ramp at the interchange opened in October. It was the first big opening of the makeover of the interchange after years of construction.
