ATLANTA — As the anniversary of the deadly spa shootings in metro Atlanta nears, a local group is speaking out about crimes against Asians.
Eight people died when a shooter targeted three spas in Atlanta and Cherokee County on March 16 last year.

Six of the victims were Asian women.
Local community leaders are calling for justice and action to prevent future tragedies.

“These senseless violence and hate crimes are anything but new to Asian Americans and other communities of color in our nation,” said Dr. Chaiwon Kim, CEO of the Center for Pan Asian Community Services.

Robert Aaron Long pleaded guilty to killing four people in Cherokee County, but he pleaded not guilty to the Atlanta killings, where prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
