Friends and family gathered at 202 Anderson Ave., where Grayson Matthew Fleming-Gray was shot and killed as he sat in his car seat on Jan. 24.

There was a picture of Grayson with a halo and angel wings at the site, where there was also a growing memorial of stuffed animals and balloons.

“We want to say love is way more powerful than any evil and any hatred, and if this can stop, it’s a beautiful memorial,” vigil organizer Adrienne Couther said. “But we’re tired of putting up memorials for our dead children.”

Grayson’s grandparents say a Winnie the Pooh pillow inscribed with “Even if we’re apart, I will always be with you,” has been giving them comfort in their time of sorrow.

“It was just to let people know that even though he’s gone, I believe he’s going to be with us forever,” said Grayson’s grandfather.

Dozens of members of the Dixie Hill community gathered together to honor Grayson’s short life.

“It’s beautiful and the people have really opened up their hearts to us,” Grayson’s grandmother, Barbara Gray, said. “We get lots of good hugs, nice strong hugs.”
