NewsChopper 2 was over the scene, where flames were shooting out of a three-story building’s roof.
Channel 2′s Candace McGowan learned that no one was living in the building yet and that the workers were all able to get out.
Atlanta Public Schools said that nearby Best Academy and Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy were both released early.
Aminah Muhammad said she came to pick up her child.
“I’m in Mama mode, so I parked and walked. No problem,” Muhammad said.
Muhammad said she knows part of the complex is occupied but the part that caught fire was just built.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
