ATLANTA — Police are looking for a robber they said was wearing an angry clown mask when he shot a customer at a local Waffle House.

It happened in the 1000 block of Northside Drive early Tuesday morning.

Police said the man acted strangely and wandered around the parking lot before going into the restaurant.

Police told Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach that the man wearing a black hoodie went into the restaurant just after 6 a.m. Tuesday. He went into the restroom and emerged wearing a clown mask, police said.

The man pulled out a gun and demanded property from customers and employees.

He demanded wallets and phones from the half-dozen or so customers and said he needed a car.

He took one victim’s keys, grabbed the cash register on the way out, and made it to the parking lot.

"Dude that got shot was arguing with the guy, then got out my car and shot the guy," a witness told Gehlbach.

Police said the suspect fired two shots back into the store, breaking the glass in the door and hitting one customer in his neck. The customer survived and was rushed to the hospital.

“I thought it was a joke, but for real, man, it was a shock, so I gave my car to him. I didn’t want to get shot,” victim Charles Fears said.

Police soon found that man’s car ditched just a couple blocks away in a parking lot outside a residence hall on the Georgia Tech campus.

Police are still looking for the shooter, they said.

There was no sign of the clown mask, or the cash register, just a trail of pennies.
