ATLANTA — One of the busiest Chick-fil-A locations in Buckhead is closing temporarily as it undergoes a $3 million renovation.

The Chick-fil-A Peachtree at Collier across from Piedmont Atlanta Hospital announced it will stop service after Thursday. The franchise location had been operating in the area for almost 23 years.

The plan is to overtake the property next door that used to include a liquor store and add a second drive-thru lane.

Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach spoke with customers who say they’ll miss having the restaurant while its closed, but look forward to the improvements to traffic flow that come with its reopening.

“[It’s] a little bit sad that it’s going to be closing, but I know big things are coming and looking forward to it,” customer Mariel McKinney.

There’s currently just one lane in and out of the Peachtree Road location, which can leave traffic backed up during the lunch hour.

“It’s a little hectic at times. Traffic is ridiculous,” one Door Dash driver told Gehlbach.

Owner and operator Bryan Auton says the new property will tie into the traffic light at the nearby intersection, making it easier to access and more efficient.

“There’s really going to be two lanes of traffic where they don’t have to cross anymore, so it should reduce that log jam that you’ve seen at our restaurant,” he said.

While the Chick-fil-A will close on Thursday, it’s unclear when the demolition for the property will begin. The company expects to re-open sometime later this year or early in 2024.
