Dee Dee Harbin owns a nearby trophy shop. She told Channel 2′s Ashli Lincoln that the smoke was so heavy, customers thought her business was on fire.
According to the company’s website, Encore Recycling was established in 2013. The business recycles scrap metals and metals from industrial manufactures.
The Environmental Protection Agency said the company has received several violations dating back to 2018 for not being in compliance with the Clean Water Act, a federal law that governs how chemicals are stored at facilities.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is unclear if any injuries were sustained.
This is the second fire at a metro recycling plant in less than a week after a plant in Clayton County caught fire late last week.
