ATLANTA — Criminals are breaking into cars near one of the busiest hospitals in metro Atlanta.
Channel 2's Justin Wilfon has obtained video that police say shows suspects casing a parking lot and breaking into cars in the middle of the day.
The break-ins happened Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of the CVS across from Piedmont Hospital on Peachtree Road.
Ross Piper caught video of the seemingly professional thieves in the act.
“He’s using a crowbar because he just wants it to pop,” Piper said as he walked Wilfon through the video he shot.
“I mean, just, wow. Nobody ever thinks it’s going to happen to them, right?” Piper said.

The break-in was just one of nearly 40 that Wilfon found on an Atlanta police crime map, within just a few blocks of Piedmont Hospital in Buckhead over the past three months.
In Piper’s case, the video from the parking lot of the strip mall shows several men pull up in a BMW on Wednesday afternoon. A couple of them get out and begin casing cars but they seem to focus on Piper’s Jeep.
“The car had been broken into and the window smashed out,” Piper said. “They did a good job scoping what they wanted to see.”
The video shows, when the coast was clear, one of the men running toward the Jeep, using a crowbar to bust the back window and diving in to grab Piper’s work bag that contained several electronics.
“There was an iPad, some ear pods, a little wireless speaker,” Piper said.
He showed Wilfon the repair work he needs done to his Jeep while police search for the thieves.
“What I wish for is that they can get caught,” Piper said.
