ATLANTA — WSB-TV and the Nextdoor app are partnering to celebrate the top 100 amazing neighbors across the country.
Until now, people have been nominating individual neighbors who are doing great things, but now an entire neighborhood is being recognized.
The people who live in Adair Park say they are a tight-knit community and, if you need help, there’s always someone more than willing to lend a hand.
“You can literally go to your Facebook and say, ‘I need sugar.’ The response won’t be yes or no, it will be, ‘Do you need powdered sugar? Do you need white sugar? Do you need turbinado sugar? what kind of sugar do you need?’” Adair Park resident Lawrence Miller told Channel 2′s Heather Catlin.

“We have an amazing vibrant neighborhood that’s full of so many people who are passionate about their community and, truly so many, unsung heroes that do things for people everyday,” resident Alyssa Thys said.
About 450 homes make up Adair Park, which is located southwest of downtown Atlanta.
Thys and Miller says it is a wonderful place of diversity and serenity in the middle of the city.
“Whether you’re talking about structure itself or talking to people from the level of diversity, gay/lesbian couples to individuals to straight individuals, this is a neighborhood where everyone thinks, ‘I can’t believe I actually found this place,’” Miller said.
OTHER NEXTDOOR 100 NOMINEES:
- Milton chef who figured out how to keep his staff during the pandemic nominated for the Nextdoor 100
- Alpharetta woman giving back to her community, other countries nominated for Nextdoor 100
- Smyrna couple who stepped up for paralyzed neighbor nominated for Nextdoor 100
They say neighbors help each other stay in the neighborhood.
The neighbors most recently worked together to save a woman’s house that was on the verge of being condemned.
“The house is not just livable, but the woman who lives there for 30, 40 years is loving the way her house is now,” Miller said.
Adair Park residents say they also contribute money to the Gidion Elementary School’s PTA.
One of the neighborhood’s biggest fundraisers is to help each other, the annual Porches and Pies Festival.
“It is a super fun day where people from all over Atlanta come out and they taste different pies from our bake off,” Thys explained. “That really supports all of the work our neighbors do, from the housing relief fund to the senior fund, youth outreach programs as well.”
