ATLANTA — The family of a missing Army veteran is asking for the public’s help trying to find her.
They’ve hired a metro Atlanta private investigative firm in the search.
It’s agonizing pain that Emmie Wheeler says she’s enduring since her daughter disappeared on Dec. 1.
She told Channel 2 investigative reporter Ashli Lincoln that Portia Wheeler, 37, was last seen leaving a friend’s home, in Phoenix City, Alabama.
It’s just 5 minutes from Columbus, Georgia where Wheeler lives.
“I tried to call her Sunday night but no answer,” Wheeler said. “It’s been hard because we don’t know anything, we just know something is not right.”

Her mother hired metro Atlanta-based private investigator Robin Martinelli to help find leads in this case.
“We assist the police department in any way that we can, we do not interfere with their investigation,” Martinelli said.
Wheeler stands at 5 feet 3 inches and weighs 189 lbs. She has black hair and brown eyes.
Her vehicle is a light blue Honda Odyssey 2021 with Alabama tag A2PPRE.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911, the Columbus Police Department’s Special Victims Unit at 706-25-3449, or lead investigator Cpl. Eric Schwind at 706-225-4339.
