Shooter opens fire on East Point home during family party, police say

EAST POINT, Ga — Several people had to hit the floor during a family gathering Saturday after someone started opening fire on their home.

Police said a gunman fired off 8-10 rounds at the home along St. Michael Avenue in East Point Saturday, and one person was shot in the shoulder.

Investigators told Channel 2′s Tom Jones that the victim was sitting in a car on the street after cutting someone’s yard.

Police said the victim was getting ready to leave when someone in a black truck with black rims blocked him in and fired multiple shots at his car.

The officer said the victim fired back.

David Patrie, who owns the home that was shot up, said the gunfire happened quickly while several family members were on his porch, causing them to all hit the floor.

“I’m like, ‘Are those shards?’ And then I kind of looked up, and I go, ‘Oh my God, there’s a bullet.’ And I kind of ducked,” Jones said. “That could really be a bad situation when people don’t think, and they just go off firing like that.”

“It’s kind of sad,” Patrie said. “You’d like to think you could sit out here. It’s a nice neighborhood.”
