He made headlines in Atlanta as the leader of the failed Buckhead cityhood movement and he now has a chance for a very important role in President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration.
Saturday afternoon, Trump announced that White, a long-time friend would be his choice as the next U.S. Ambassador to Belgium.

White spoke exclusively with Channel 2′s Richard Elliot Saturday, just hours after learning about the President-elect’s wishes to have him serve his country. White said he immediately accepted, knowing that Belgium is a very important country to the U.S. as the capital of the European Union and also as the headquarters for NATO.
“He said to me, would you like to be the Ambassador to Belgium?” White said. “I officially and immediately accepted”.

White became well-known in Atlanta politics as he spearheaded the movement to help Buckhead establish itself as its own city. The movement gained some support in areas around North Atlanta, but the State Legislature scuttled the push and it never made it to a vote. He the political lessons he learned during that time will only help him should he be confirmed.
“Those life lessons that we learned on how to deal with disparate political parties from both sides of the aisle, will help us in the role,” White said. “Because being a diplomat is not a small task”.

White joins several others from Georgia or with connections to the sate in the new administration. Former Georgia Senator Kelly Loeffler has been nominated to head the Small Business Administration. Former Senator David Perdue was nominated to be the U.S. Ambassador to China.
Like all other ambassador nominees and other large roles in the new administration, White will need to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
